Trade fair PLMA 2023 in Amsterdam
From May 22nd to 24th we were active as an exhibitor at the PLMA trade fair in Amsterdam. At this world's largest private label event, we met customers, business partners and interested parties at our colourful and inviting booth under the motto "Inspirations & Solutions". With various collections of fragrances, essential oils and flavours, we were able to convince our numerous guests with competence and creativity. A great time for valuable conversations and highly informative exchange in an inspiring environment!

Support for “Help Mada”
Since the beginning of this year FREY&LAU supports with great pleasure the non-profit association "Help Mada e.V.". In this way, we would like to make a contribution to sustainably improving the quality of life of the people of Madagascar. About 80% of the population there live below the poverty line. What is particularly lacking is adequate medical care and educational opportunities. "Help Mada e.V." collects donations to build and expand schools and health stations. In addition, vanilla farmers are to be provided with an additional source of income through vegetable cultivation. FREY&LAU has been sourcing vanilla pods from Madagascar for decades, which we process at our site.

Mint
A true classic among essential oils. The aromatic freshness of mint enhances a broad variety of products. In addition, the active pharmaceutical ingredients in mint oils give them many healthy properties. Mint oils are used in pharmaceuticals, toothpaste and oral care products, in chewing gums, sweets, candies and in the production of animal feed. FREY&LAU specializes in the processing and sales of mint oils, in all variations. We import the oils from growing regions around the world, which lets us offer our customers the entire array of mint oils, peppermint oils, spearmint oils and menthol, in the desired quantity, at all times. We use a special distillation plant for developing top-end mint oil products. All our know-how and experience in gentle rectification and fractionation of essential oils went into designing these systems. Our customers also benefit from our vast expertise in analyzing oils, as well as from individual advice and sensory selection for the desired area of application.
Mint (mentha) is a plant genus in the Lamiaceae family. There are more than 20 different species in the genus, which are primarily native to the northern hemisphere – sometimes found as large-scale cultivated plantation crops.
FREY&LAU offers the most important products from the mint segment:
Mint oil
Mentha Arvensis (wild mint or corn mint) is by far the most cultivated type of mint by volume. It is primarily grown in India. Menthol is extracted from the essential oil of the leaves and the dementholized oil is widely used in the food, oral care, tobacco and pharmaceutical industries. Mint oil is characterized by its clean, fresh menthol taste.
Peppermint oil
Mentha Piperita (peppermint) is the most well-known species of the mint family, and has long been used as a medicinal plant. Peppermint oil is used as an effective component in various pharmaceuticals, e.g. to aid digestion or fighting colds. It is also widely used in the confectionery industry. The essential oil has a fresh smell and taste, which is slightly reminiscent of chocolate. The Piperita is the most widely distributed species among the mints. The primary growing and production regions are the USA, India and China. In contrast to mint oil, the regional variety of peppermint oil is reflected in its taste.
Spearmint oil
Mentha Spicata/Mentha Cardiaca (spearmint) produces an essential oil which is used in toothpaste, chewing gum and confectioneries. Its taste is fresh and green. The essential oil is distinguished by its high content of L-carvone. The oil is primarily extracted in the USA, China and India.
Menthol
Natural menthol is crystallized from the concentrated essential oil of Mentha Arvensis. It has a cooling effect and a very fresh, intensely minty taste. Menthol is used widely in the food industry, in the production of oral care products, in the pharmaceutical industry and in tobacco products. Menthol is one of the most important flavourings used around the world.
